3D Country (2023) - Geese
this band has so much character and creativity, especially when considering that this is only their sophomore album. this album is loud and fun.
favorite songs: cowboy nudes, domoto, st elmo

ALL THINGS MUST PASS (1970) - George Harrison
imagine being in the most famous band in the world but you're still kind of overlooked and paul mccartney is mean to you all the time, but then you release the best solo album that anyone has ever heard. vindication for george. apple scruffs is the cutest song in the world. what an accomplishment.
favorite songs: if not for you, run of the mill, i live for you (from 2014 remaster), apple scruffs

THE BEATLES (1968) - The Beatles
you guys have to check out this band they're called the beatles. but for real... for serious.. I love the white album. it is so eclectic and full of sounds that are fun to listen to! (except for don't pass me by. sorry.)
favorite songs: honey pie, helter skelter, long long long, the snippet at the end of cry baby cry, dear prudence |
 |
THE CRYING LIGHT (2009) - Anohni and the Johnsons
I loooove this one. it is so lush and anohni's voice is as great as ever. I didn't think that they could top I am a Bird Now(I also love that album. that cd lived in my car for a very long time), but I think that they did.
favorite songs: daylight and the sun, another world, epilepsy is dancing |
 |
DIVERS (2015) - Joanna Newsom
I really could have chosen any Joanna album for this list, but I was just feeling Divers at the time. this one is probably her most accessible musically, but it gets quite dense in the lyrics. every word feels so important and so intentional. time travel existentialism at its finest!
favorite songs: waltz of the 101st lightborne, sapokanikan, time as a symptom/anecdotes |
 |
EVERYTHING HARMONY (2023) - The Lemon Twigs
I made an entire zine about this album. I think it came out at just the right time to achieve maximum impact on me. I cannot be objective about it, I just like it a lot.
favorite songs: still it's not enough, everything harmony, i don't belong to me

I PUT A SPELL ON YOU (1965) - Nina Simone
this album is so charming, and has some of my favorite nina vocals ever. her performance on tomorrow is my turn is so incredibly light at times, it sounds like she's just barely pronouncing the words at times (especially when put next to songs with harsher vocals, like the title track). the album as a whole is so warm sounding, it's such a comfort to listen to.
favorite songs: tomorrow is my turn, one september day, ne me quitte pas

 |
IGOR (2019) - Tyler, the Creator
home to one of my favorite album closers! so loud, so punchy, so full of heart. also the visuals that went along with this album were so good; every music video is beautiful.
favorite songs: new magic wand, are we still friends?, what's good, gone gone / thank you

 |
LIVE FROM BLACKALACHIA (2021) - Moses Sumney
aromanticism (2017) and grae (2020) are both fantastic albums on their own, but this live album really elevates each of them into something completely different. the arrangements are so well done, especially the more brass driven songs. AND this is a visual album and it is gorgeous in every way.
favorite songs: colouour, virile, bless me, cut me |
 |
MY LOVE IS COOL (2015) - Wolf Alice
this is definitely a nostalgia pick, but I still think this album holds up very well. ellie's voice is one of my favorites, so I still listen to wolf alice quite a bit (I thought blue weekend was very good and I am excited for the clearing!!) just a good mix of pop, grunge, shoegaze, and indie sounds.
favorite songs: silk, blush (only on deluxe edition), giant peach, your loves whore |
 |
NO SHAPE (2017) - Perfume Genius
it was very hard to choose between no shape, too bright, and put ur back n 2 it, but I think I decided on this one for nostalgia reasons again. die 4 you was the first song I heard from perfume genius, so it gets extra points from me. this album is sooooo lush and in your face. I love all the vocal manipulation that shows up in later songs, it has such an eerie feel to it.
favorite songs: otherside, choir, die 4 you, slip away |
 |
RAM (1971) - Paul & Linda McCartney
a nostalgic and saccharine album. I just think this one is so charming. the way they pronounce 'lady' on eat at home. the time change in 3 legs. and then ending on back seat of my car just makes it out of this world. yay ram!
favorite songs: 3 legs, back seat of my car, long haired lady, dear boy

STORMCOCK (1971) - Roy Harper
not a new album, but new to me! I listened to this after hearing about it in multiple joanna newsom interviews, and it did not disappoint. I love long form folk songs. when I listened to hors d'oeuvres for the first time, I was so blown away by the harmonies (mostly because they took so long to come in that I just didn't think there would be any harmonies on the album). but the payoff from these songs is incredible.
favorite songs: me and my woman, the same old rock
